The Raven Cycle is Going to be a TV Series

Is it true?! Please let it be true, and please let it be good. In a world where most Young Adult novel to screen adaptations have had rocky reviews at best, I hope that SyFy is able to do Stiefvater’s novel justice.

On November 4th, 2018, Maggie Stiefvater ominously released an image that says “The Raven Cycle: It’s Starting, It’s Starting” along with a directors name, Catherine Hardwicke. You probably recognize the name because she was the directed of another popular YA series, Twilight. I’ll leave a link to the image Stiefvater posted here.

Stiefvater then commented that the book series is in development with SyFy and being produced by Groundswell. I am hopeful that SyFy can do a good job with this series. I’m also glad that it is becoming a television series, rather than a movie. There just isn’t enough time ever allotted to film to allow for a decent YA adaptation.

If you’ve never heard of The Raven Cycle before its a Young Adult urban fantasy series by Maggie Stiefvater. Stiefvater is one of my favorite authors. Her books are both whimsical, dark and quirky in all the best ways possible. The first book of the series, The Raven Boys, follows the female protagonist Blue who has been raised by a bunch of female psychics. She’s been told her whole life that if she kisses her true love, he will die. In the opening image of the novel, Blue is in a graveyard and sees the ghost of a young boy, and a  few days later that same boy (currently alive) shows up at her house.

This series is simply fantastic. I’m beyond excited to see how this series translates on screen. If Maggie Stiefvater was involved in the process, then I have faith that this TV series will be great.

How do you feel about this adaptation? How do you feel about it airing on SyFy? I’d love to discuss it with you in the comments below!
